Lee Coronation Celebrations

Coronation 2023 Red-Blue.png

4 Amazing events providing something for everyone celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

We started our Lee Coronation Celebration events with the Night at the Races - on the 22nd April held at the Lee on Lee on Solent Community Centre (The Commy), what a fantastic evening it was with 98 people attending for a night of 6 horse racing and an auction pig race.  We look forward to bringing another race night later in the year.

On the 7th May we have the big one, time for the community to come together and ‘let the music play’ at the free Lee Coronation Community Celebration street party on Marine Parade, Lee on the Solent.

Event Information and Overview

The event is being held on Sunday 7th May 2023 as part of the 3 day bank holiday weekend using and maximising the amazing seafront vista we have here in Lee on the Solent where we see the event being held on the area of Marine Parade Car Park, Marine Parade & the Promenade, all creating the event area.

Based around the concept of the previously delivered events where there will be a mixture of entertainment for the families to enjoy throughout the day with music, Harvo Entertainment - Punch & Judy, Nick Cook - Circus Entertainer / Performer - stilt man & balloons, Believe A Bubble, Face painting and others to create a party atmosphere supported with food and beverage vendors.

To create the safe environment for the public to enjoy the event, we will see the full closure of the Flower Building and Marine Parade Car Parks, Marine Parade (between Osborne Road & Cambridge Road, Milvil Road (Marine Parade to the Service Alley) and Pier Street. The Service Alley between Pier Street and Beach Road will be Bi-Directional throughout the event.

The car parks have been hired by Montserrat Events in full agreement with Gosport Borough Council.

The grass Headland west of the toilets and beach is where people can also sit. Additional temporary toilets will be situated next to the existing ones.

The main stage will be located at the junction of Milvil Road/Marine Parade at a slight angle facing the sea but towards the war memorial. Visitors are being encouraged to bring tables, chairs, blankets to create a BIG Street Party atmosphere. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol or purchase from local bars/shops - remember this is a family event so be safe and drink responsibly.

There will be a designated cleared area to allow the HMS Collingwood Volunteer Band to march and perform in front of the stage; this will be required and cleared by 1930 ready for their performance at 2000; we are asking for no tables and chairs to be placed here but the area can be used for dancing and gathering.

The event will be based around the previous successful events that the event team have organised and delivered ie: Summer in Lee, Lee Victory Festival and Christmas in Lee 21 and the Queen’s Jubilee, all planned, delivered, and managed by Montserrat Events, a (CIC) Community Interest Company; together with their amazing team of local volunteers.

The event will be busy with music and visitors meaning there will be footfall in and around the seafront area throughout the day with it most likely to be at its busiest between 1300-1800, meaning there may be some congestion regarding the flow of traffic and parking; we are encouraging those who live local to Lee to walk, but if they drive to be patient and park sensibly if they are using the side roads around the seafront.

As organisers we are speaking with the council about opening the grass headland next to beach road car park, but this is weather dependant.

Our event team and volunteers, in high viz jackets, will be on-site throughout the day at the organisers tent and marshalling should you need to speak with anyone on the day.

Please do come and visit us on the day. You can keep up to date with all our events by visiting the following websites: www.leeonthesolent.uk and www.montserratevents.co.uk

We would like to say a big thank you to our Sponsor Marine Concepts and financial support form Hampshire County Councillors Cllr Graham Burgess & Cllrzoehuggins together from Gosport Borough Council. We also have a big announcement to be made during the opening of the event.
